Lt Gen OP Nandrajog had an illustrious career of over 40 years in Indian Army. He is an awardee of Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), the Highest Distinguished Service Award of India in 2008. In addition, he is also a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for Distinguished Service in the Western Theatre in 2004 and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for Counter-terrorist Operations in Jammu and Kashmir in 1995-96.
In Indo-Pak War of 1971, Lt General OP Nandrajog commanded a Company in the crucial Shakargarh Sector of the Western Front. Later, he was the Commander of the brigade deployed in Kargil during the 1999 War. His leadership was instrumental in converting the adverse situation in Kargil into a resounding national victory. In addition, he has successfully participated in numerous Counter Insurgency/Terrorist Operations in Punjab, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir.
During 1990-93, he served as the Military, Naval and Air Attache of India in Sweden. This experience helped him in gaining significant diplomatic experience and defence industry knowledge while interacting with dignitaries such as foreign diplomats, defence industry representatives, and various military representatives. In 2007, he led an Indian Military Delegation to China as a part of military cooperation and confidence building measures.
Lt Gen OP Nandrajog has a Masters in Defence Studies from Defence Service Staff College and an MPhil in International Strategy from National Defence College. He is a through sportsman and enjoys playing golf, boxing, badminton, squash, tennis, hockey and soccer.
